In a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, ex-Shiv Sena MLA Krishna Hegde urged that the government extend the time on the eve of Christmas to allow the community to hold the midnight mass across the state.

Mentioning that the midnight mass timings have been postponed for some years now, Hegde said, “I would request you to kindly make an exception this year and grant the Christian community time till 1 am on the 25th of December so that they can have the midnight mass per their tradition in their respective churches and parishes.”

He elaborated, “We have extended time during (other) festivals in the past and hope the Government will consider my request.”

The state government’s night curfew order has necessitated churches to prepone their Christmas and New Year’s Eve services.
