Former Union Finance Secretary, Subhash Chandra Garg has been appointed as advisor for Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. The ex-IAS officer who served Modi government at the centre had taken voluntary retirement, a few months ago.

Garg has been assigned a Cabinet Minister rank in the state, as per an order issued by Principal Secretary (Political) Praveen Prakash. Garg, an IAS officer of 1983 Rajasthan batch cadre will be in this post for two years.

Garg had been in recent times vocal about the economic policies of the central government and had sent across his suggestions to be undertaken for carrying out the much needed economic reforms. Garg was also seen as the architect behind India selling sovereign bonds in external currencies to raise $10 million.

He came under severe criticism for this move from various quarters, including former RBI governor Raghuram Rajan.
