Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP leadership has decided to remove Smriti Irani as the Information & Broadcasting minister after the latest controversies related to the distribution of National Film Awards.
Minister of state Rajyavardhan Rathore will handle the portfolio with independent charge.
Meanwhile Railways Minister Piyush Goyal will get the additional charge of finance and corporate affairs as the current minister Arun Jaitley undergoes a kidney transplant surgery at the AIIMS.
Smriti Irani was given the additional charge of I&B ministry when Venkaiah Niadu resigned after becoming the Vice-President of the country. Smriti Irani will now be confined to the Textiles ministry which she got after she was moved out from HRD ministry at a time when Narendra Modi formed government in 2014.
