Mumbai: The erection of the Mumbai Coastal Road arch bridge, a remarkable achievement connecting the Bandra-Worli sea link, was completed early Friday morning.

Notably, a football-field-sized, 25,000-metric-ton barge was used to transport the arch.

The 2,000 MT arch bridge, a monumental part of the Mumbai Coastal Road project, sailed from Mazagon Dock’s Nhava unit the day before. Construction was scheduled for the morning of April 26.

Following the completion, an elated additional commissioner of the municipal corporation of greater Mumbai, Ashwini Bhide, wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Hearty congratulations to the team @mybmcCoastalRd, team HCC, PMC, GC, on this fantastic achievement.”

The coastal road project, which began on October 13, 2018, spans 53 km and will link to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link before reaching Dahisar.

According to CM Shinde, the Mumbai Coastal Road will help reduce pollution and save time and fuel.
