Srinagar: Several women demonstrators, including former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah's daughter and mother, were detained in Srinagar this afternoon during protests against the end of the special status of the state. Prominent women activists and leading academics were among the demonstrators. On August 5, we were locked inside our homes and Article 370 was abrogated. This is a marriage by compulsion which won't work," Suraiya Abdullah told reporters. In Pratap Park near Srinagar's Lal Chowk, women carrying placards had gathered. The police swooped in on them as they began to protest and put a dozen women in preventive custody. They have been brought to a nearby police station.
