New Delhi: A parliamentary committee called on the government to improve the cancer treatment system and make it affordable by extending a leading health care institution's network, as it expressed concern about nearly two-thirds of patients dying in the country. The Standing Parliamentary Committee on Science and Technology, Environment, Forest and Climate Change presented its report on "an expanded role for the Atomic Energy Department in the treatment of cancer in India through an enlarged Tata Memorial Centre (TMC) network in Mumbai." The report was submitted by the panel members, including chairman Jairam Ramesh, to Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday, the upper house secretariat said in a statement.
