New Delhi: Monday's government said there was no plan to waive educational loans under consideration. The amount of outstanding education loans increased from Rs 67,685.59 crore to Rs 75,450.68 crore in September 2019 in the last three years from 2016-17 to March 2019, according to data provided by public sector banks. Over 90% of these accounts are ordinary, as Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman told Lok Sabha on March 31 of this year. The minister also said that no case of student suicide was reported because of unbearable pressure from banks to repay education loans, as reported by public sector banks.
