Mumbai: On Monday, BJP leader and former chief minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis welcomed the outcome of the by-polls of the Karnataka assembly, swept by his party, saying that the outcome reflected the reaction of voters to "opportunist politics." The ruling BJP won 12 out of the 15 seats where bypolls were held, thus securing a comfortable majority in the Karnataka assembly. Fadnavis said the voters rejected parties that "stolen" the mandate for the sake of power apparently referring to Congress and the JD(S) joining hands to keep out of power the BJP, which emerged as the largest single political party after the 2018 Karnataka Assembly polls.
