Lucknow: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today condemned the destruction of public property in violent protests over the last few weeks against the Citizenship Amendment Act, asking suspected vandals to introspect whether their acts were "healthy or not." "I want to ask people who resorted to violence in Uttar Pradesh to sit at home and ponder if what they did is successful or not. They destroyed busses and public property belonging to the future generation," he said at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University's foundation stone-laying ceremony in Lucknow.

PM Modi cited in his speech how his government had successfully resolved many contentious issues. "The issue of Ram Janmabhoomi has been resolved in peace. Article 370 was an old disease, and it was our responsibility to resolve it," he said, referring to the scrapping of Jammu and Kashmir's special status earlier this year.
