Ace Indian badminton star P.V. Sindhu reached the semi-finals of the Swiss Open in women’s singles with a 21-16, 23-21 win against Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan in Basel on Friday.

Sindhu who enjoys a healthy head-to-head record against Ongbamrungphan (11-1) had easily defeated her in their last meeting at Toyota Thailand Open.

Sindhu has been in great form with her smashing and rallies throughout the tournament and was in full flow against her Thai opponent.

Early on both players went toe-to-toe before Sindhu pulled away after winning her fifth point. She targeted her opponent’s backhand as the Thai national struggled with its placement, allowing the Indian to finish off points quickly.

Meanwhile in the men’s singles former world number one Kidambi Srikanth also advanced to the semi-finals with a 21-19, 21-15 win over Kantaphon Wangcharoen of Thailand.

While Sindhu will face Dane Mia Blichfeldt in the last four, Srikanth will take on Viktor Axelsen for a place in the final.
