New Delhi: The Unnao rape survivor's car crash generated ripples in parliament today as opposition parties cornered the governing BJP, wondering why it did not take action on its Kuldeep Sengar accused member of rape.
.Uttar Pradesh's four-time lawmaker, who has been in prison for a year, was mentioned as charged in a murder case after his participation in the Sunday incident was alleged by the teen's relatives. The opposition parties requested an impartial probe on the issue and the home minister's explanation.
The teen, who was in a Rae Bareli-bound vehicle, was wounded and in a critical condition. Two of her aunts are dead, one of whom in the rape situation was a witness. Her lawyer, who was in the vehicle as well, is critical. Kuldeep Sengar, who called up from inside prison and requested that they drop the case, has said they were frequently threatened by the family.
"Today, the people of India feel ashamed of the incident of Unnao.It's a blot on civilized culture, where a minor woman was gang-raped .. We're asking the Home Minister to come to the House and make a declaration. We're talking about what kind of a culture, where such an event can occur," Congressman Adhir Chowdhury said in the Lok Sabha.
