Complaints have been filed against Wall Street Journal (WSJ) with Delhi Police as well as Maharashtra Police for defaming Hinduism and spreading communal tension and for misreporting facts on Delhi riots and killing of Intelligence Bureau staffer Ankit Sharma.

“Police complaints filed against The Wall Street Journal @WSJ with @DelhiPolice & Maharashtra Police for 'defaming particular religion & spreading communal tension' with respect to alleged misreporting on #DelhiViolence & murder of IB official Ankit Sharma,” national broadcaster Prasar Bharti said in a tweet.

WSJ had falsely reported that Sharma was returning to his home when rioters threw stones and charged into the street where his house was located. In the story published by them they quoted the slain IB staffer’s brother: “They came armed with stones, rods, knives and even swords; they shouted 'Jai Shri Ram.”

Prasar Bharati approached Ankur Sharma the IB official’s brother who however denied giving such statement to the WSJ. He said that WSJ was lying. Ankur Sharma’s family is pointing fingers at Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) councillor Tahir Hussain for the incident. Delhi Police has registered a case of rioting and murder against the AAP councillor and are conducting investigations. The IB officer’s body was found lying in a canal in Delhi.
