US President Donald Trump declared Taj as a testament to the rich and diverse beauty of Indian culture. “Taj Mahal inspires awe, a timeless testament to the rich and diverse beauty of Indian culture! Thank you, India,” wrote Trump in the visitor’s book during his visit to the monument built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife in the 17th century.

Trump also enjoyed the sunset along with his wife at the Taj. The Trumps were accompanied by his daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner and top US officials.

Authorities decked up Taj Mahal over the last one week with a fresh coat of mud pack applied over the structure for the first time since it was built. The mausoleums in the complex were also cleaned in view of the high profile visit. Trump had arrived at the Taj at the head of a 70-vehicle cavalcade, including his luxurious 'Beast'. The President rode to the complex in a battery-operated cart.

This is Trump’s first visit to India and before Trump, Bill Clinton in 2000 and Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1959 were the other US Presidents to visit Agra. The city too witnessed a massive facelift with the local administration putting up huge billboards, placards, cut-outs and posters welcoming the US President and his wife Melania.
