Former all-girls teen pop band Dream’s singer Melissa Schuman has filed a police report against Nick Carter whom she had accused in November, claiming that he raped her in 2003 when she was 18 and he was 22.
Schuman tweeted about the same, “I’m finally doing what I thought I could no longer do. I’m filing a police report #timesup.”
She initially came forward with the allegations in a post on her personal blog in which she claimed that Carter raped her in a bathroom after she had come over to his house and expressed that she didn't tell anyone about the alleged incident for years for fear of people not believing her. Schuman said that she did consider pressing charges at the time against the Backstreet Boys singer but however couldn’t because she claimed that she was warned that she would be humiliated and accused of being fame hungry.
Responding to the accusations, Nick Carter issued a statement in which he said, “Melissa never expressed to me while we were together or at any time since that anything we did was not consensual. We went on to record a song and perform together, and I was always respectful and supportive of Melissa both personally and professionally. This is the first that I am hearing about these accusations, nearly two decades later. It is contrary to my nature and everything I hold dear to intentionally cause someone discomfort or harm.”
