Mumbai: To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Kasturba as well as 100 years of Jallianwala Bagh, the SIES College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Sion jointly with the college Past Students’ Association and the Guru Nanak Khalsa College, Matunga organized a three-day Centennial Trinity BA- BAPU- BAGH from January 28 to 30.

                                                                                          

As a prelude to the event both the institutions had arranged an exhibition Ba-Bapu-Bagh- Bazar in order to popularize the use of Khadi with the help of Khadi Village Industries
Commission and Sarvodaya Book House, through display of wide range of Khadi textile and Khadi products on January 13 and 14. By arranging the exhibition “we are making an
impression in youth’s minds to wear Khadi and turn a new leaf in their life by choosing to go Swadeshi”, the principal of the SIES College Dr. Uma Shankar said. It is also our
attempt to make inroads in the minds of the present generation to imbibe and inculcate the timeless values of the Indian ethos, added Dr. Uma Shankar.

                                                                                          

At the inaugural function held at Khalsa college, BAFTA award-winning actress Rohini Hattangadi who played the role of Kasturba in “Gandhi film” described Kasturba Gandhi
as a monumental personality while interacting with the students of the Khalsa college and led them through her moments of Reliving Ba in the most acclaimed Richard
Attenbrough’s film.

                                                                                          

The following day at the SIES College Dr. Anand Gokani, an endocrinologist and great grandson of Mahatma Gandhi while speaking on ‘Reflection on Bapu’ at the 150th
birth anniversary of Mahatma said Gandhiji was the same as all of us. “He was also experimenting with his life as we do. He was learning something from all his
experiences. We are reinventing and celebrating his qualities ethics and morale he stood for, Gokhani said.

                                                                                        

There was also an exhibition of 100 years of Jallianwala Bagh at the SIES college. More than 20 exhibits from the Partition Museum , Amritsar were opened to the students and
general public. Seven Jallianwala Bagh Martyrs family members were honoured on the occasion.
