ME News Bureau: The Congress party has taken disciplinary action against its senior leader Mani Shankar Aiyar for calling Prime Minister Narendra Modi a "neech aadmi". It suspended him from the party’s primary membership and also, issued him a show cause notice.
"The Congress party has served a show cause notice to Mani Shankar Aiyar and suspended him from the primary membership of the party," stated Randeep Surjewala, Congress communications in charge.
This action came just two days before the first phase of the Gujarat Assembly election.
The action showed the party's "Gandhian leadership" and respect for the political rival, said Surjewala. He asked if Prime Minister Modi would dare to act in this fashion.
Aiyar had set off a political blaze when he called Modi a "neech kism ka aadmi", a remark the latter claimed was a casteist smear against him.
