Latest intercepts available with the Indian intelligence agencies have revealed a plot of action between Dawood Ibrahim, a top Bollywood superstar and some white collared people to roundtrip black money to tax safe havens and bring It back into India as white money. The agencies are now trying to confirm the identities of the people involved in the plot even though they have a rough idea of who the superstar might be.
The revelation has sent shock waves in not just the intelligence agencies but in Bollywood as well. Though there were well established ties between the D company and the Bollywood industry in the 1990s, the same ties were snapped when Dawood was forced to exit to Dubai and under constant scrutiny went underground for a while. The intercepts point out to the use of Bade Hazrat as a code name for Dawood Ibrahim by his Indian operatives though interestingly one of his own men has siphoned off part of the black money meant to be sent off to Panama and Canada. Such a breach of trust is not being seen in good light for the D company’s business which aims at maintaining secrecy for all their clients.
The agencies have a fair idea about the superstar’s identity and are now trying to identify certain politicians who might be involved in the racket. The investigations are revolving around roundtripping, an illegal way of converting black money into white by routing it through tax havens and then bringing it back into India. As late as 2012 the Pakistani operative for D company has helped shift money for Indian clients after which part of the money is shifted to D company’s account as commission for the job done. It was during this conversation that the Pakistani based operative told the Sharjah based operative that the client complained of misappropriation of funds once the money reached his Indian bank accounts. While the agencies suspect that the misappropriation could be a result of a technical goof up while transferring money, the top boss is not happy with the blame game and would like to sort out the glitches before the plot gets busted. The agencies are hopefull of finding the Indians related to the plot.
