Demand to check cyber pornography

Senior member of parliament Vijay Darda  tabled in the Rajya Sabha, a petition of Jain Acharya Ratnasudarji  Surishwarji to amend the Information Technology Act 2000 to check cyber pornography.
 
The petition tabled in the Rajya Sabha  states that the cyber pornography is leading to promiscuity in the country. The cyber pornography is perverting the morals of two third youths of the country, corrupting and leading them astray.
 
Quoting a report in an English language daily, the petition said that there were 1.4 crore pornographic websites 1998 which grew to 26 crore. There was a growth of 1800 per cent in the number of websites in the last five years. Quoting another report from a weekly newspaper, the petition said that 70 percent of surfing of data on the internet is related to pornography.
 
The petition has demanded that every service provider should be mandated to block pornographic websites. By amending the Information Technology Act 2000, display or surfing of extreme pornography on computer or mobile handset should constitute an offence. The amended Information Technology Act should include special provisions for stern punitive action against the producer, distributor and viewer of the
pornography. Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) should issue special directives to the mobile phone companies to check the surfing of pornography on the mobile gadgets, the petition has demanded. Besides Darda, Praveen B Jain, Sanjay K Vora and Pratibha Naithani are the joint petitioners.
