Media Eye News Bureau: Prime Minister Narendra Modi hard sells India as a global destination for investment and invited the attention of world leaders about India’s growth potential while addressing the plenary session of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Indian PM reminded all about the serious issue of growing protectionism while also outlining the rise in tariff and non-tariff barriers that are impeding global trade.
Modi also spoke of climate change, terrorism and ‘self-centrism’ as the biggest challenges facing the world.
The Prime Minister used most of the opportunity to pitch his government’s actions that brought about the reforms in the country in the last three years saying the government had replaced red tape with red carpet and laid the roadmap for transformative change.
Modi became the first Indian PM to participate in a forum meeting in two decades after H.D. Deve Gowda in 1997.
“There are many challenges before the world. But I think there are three main challenges which pose biggest threat to the global community.
“Terrorism is dangerous. Worse is when people say there is a difference between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ terror,” he said.
The Indian presence this year in Davos is the largest in the 48-year history of the World Economic Forum.
