New Delhi: Domestic power bills will fall by a few hundred rupees for homes consuming 1,200 units or less, according to the electricity regulator's order. For every kiloWatt of energy, households that use more than 1,200 units will have to pay 25 more paise. Power regulator Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission, an autonomous and quasi-judicial body, has lowered fixed fees for national customers with a load of up to 15 kW that has been approved. Fixed charge, part of the electricity bill, is the cost that a consumer must pay even if they don't consume  any energy unit.

Those with 1kiloWatt of approved load will see a decrease of Rs.105 in their monthly electricity bill due to reduced fixed charges, 2kW connections will save Rs.210, 3kW Rs 270, 4kW Rs 360, while 5kW and 6kW connections will save Rs 450. However, energy charges, which are Delhi's unit electricity price, have risen from Rs 7.75/kWh to Rs 8/kWh for homes consuming more than 1,200 units.
