Jhansi: Seven cows died of suffocation while three others were wounded on Thursday when they were supposedly locked in Sudamapuri village's Panchayat Bhawan building.

While some of the villagers claimed the cows were intentionally locked in the building, the officials said the cattle went into the house alone to escape the rain.

Jhansi Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Amit Kumar Diwedi and a veterinary doctor rushed to the place.

Anoop Kumar Dubey, Charkhari station officer in Jhansi said, "The gram pradhan has filed an application. We are researching whether the cows entered the building on their own or whether they were intentionally locked in by someone."
