Airtel pays over 8000 cro

Leading global telecommunications company Bharti Airtel has paid Rs.8,004 crores towards clearing of statutory dues to the Department of Telecom (DoT). Airtel had earlier paid Rs.10,000 crores and with this amount it has paid Rs.18,004 crores to the government.

As per government calculations Airtel owes over Rs.35,000 crores and the Supreme Court in its order dated October 24, 2019 had directed the company to clear the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. Airtel in a statement said that it has finished assessing dues related to AGR it owes the government. The assessment of dues was carried out for the period 2006-07 to February 2020.

Airtel said that it also deposited an additional amount of Rs 5,000 crore, as an ad-hoc payment, subject to subsequent refund, to cover differences, in case there are any, arising from the reconciliation exercise with the DoT.
