Prime Minister Narendra Modi has handed over control of his Twitter, Instagram, Facebook and YouTube accounts to “inspiring women”. Video stories of Kashmir’s Arifa Jan and bomb blast survivor Malvika Iyer were broadcasted through PM’s Instagram account briefly. They were shown through IGTV format on Instagram.

The videos received huge viewership, Iyer’s video for instance, got 3,40,000 views so far. Modi has 35.5 million followers on Instagram.  The videos were also uploaded on YouTube where the Prime Minister has 4.54 million subscribers. However, the visitors to YouTube has been far less with Kalpana Ramesh, an urban water conservationist’s video, for example, getting 1,820 views after being online for about 50 minutes.

The same video, when posted on Facebook, drew 67,000 views and 464 shares within a span of 40 minutes. All users who got control of Modi’s Facebook account, posted in first person. The Prime Minister had announced that seven women achievers will share their stories and interact with people through his social media accounts.

Supporting women’s initiative the Prime Minister had tweeted: “Greetings on International Women's Day! We salute the spirit and accomplishments of our Nari Shakti. As I'd said a few days ago, I'm signing off. Throughout the day, seven women achievers will share their life journeys and perhaps interact with you through my social media accounts.”
